On February 15, 2015, the Secretary of Transportation and the Administrator of the FAA announced new proposed rules for companies who want to operate drones for commercial purposes in the US. Until those rules are in effect, a commercial drone operator must submit details of how they plan to operate their drone business safely to the FAA and have the plans approved; the approval is called a 333 Exemption. This process is straightforward, and most applications are being granted within 60-90 days.
